We can stage crashes equivalent to 85 km/h (53 mph) in the car - much higher than the European Safety Regulations of 56 km/h (35 mph) or Euro NCAP and ADAC crash tests at 64 km/h (40 mph).

A UNIQUE LABORATORY

Since 1932 Jané has constantly reinvested in research and development. This philosophy has led to the creation of the Jané Crash Test Research Centre, built in 2003 it is the only private test laboratory in Spain for child safety research. It is equipped in accordance with ECE regulations and is set up to stage crashes at a greater speed than those defined in the EURO-NCAP test protocol.

Unlike other brands, our crash test centre is based in-house at our factory in Palau- Solità i Plegamans (Barcelona). This means we can constantly test and retest our products on a daily basis. And that's how we can offer you the most tested seats on the market with the strictest certification of Europe.

Our crash testing facility is simply exceptional, setting new standards and consistently pioneering breakthroughs in child safety. We are proud that safety is embedded in the DNA of the Jané brand and for over ten years the centre has been committed to ensuring our products are simply the safest and most advanced on the market.

The laboratory consists of a catapult type crash tunnel, designed exclusively for car safety seats, that allows for different speeds of impact (up to more than 65Km/h with decelerations or forces over 40 g). Three types of crashes can be tested: frontal, rear and side, thanks to the swivel platform.

 

 

Advanced Q series Crash Test Dummies

OUR ADVANCED DUMMIES

The crash tests are carried out with all the groups of child safety seats, from new born up to 36 kilos. The Jané laboratory has all the P series of dummies and also has all the dummies available in the advanced Q series (dummies fitted with state-of-the-art technology with sensors, accelerometers, etc. and with advanced biofidelity).

Each car seat is tested with the dummy with the right size and weight for the group being tested. These dolls, whose body is a replica of the representative child for each group or age, are made with maximum biofidelity and with sensors that measure decelerations on different parts of the body, as well as torsion, bending or intrusions that occur to critical parts of the baby’s body.

After each crash precise readings are obtained from each of these sensors, which, along with the visual inspection and readings offered by the high speed cameras (more than one thousand images per second) help us to improve and provide the best options for our products.

 

 

Advanced Child Safety Seat Crash Test Tunnel

 

ONE OF THE MOST ADVANCED SPECIALIST TESTING LABORATORIES IN THE WORLD.

 The Jané laboratory has also been recently updated with all the technology necessary to carry out the tests defined in the future “i-Size” regulations, so a new seat has been introduced with a special test protocol for side crashes. The new Isofix specifications have also been introduced. The introduction of the dummies of the new Q series has completed the total renovation and updating of the laboratory, equipping it so it is still one of the most advanced specialist testing laboratories in the world.

Thanks to the constant research carried out at the Jané “Crash Test Research Center” laboratory, assessments of the highest level have been achieved, placing the Jané Safety Systems right at the top. This is the case of the Montecarlo R1 seat that was awarded 4 stars at the Eurotest, and is one of the most popular restraint systems.

 

Our dummies

What is a dummy?

In the crash tests carried out by the engineers at the JANE CRASH TEST RESEARCH CENTER we use dolls to simulate vehicle drivers and passengers. These dolls, called Dummies, are the size and weight of ‘real’ babies and children, and they are tested using the same forces that a car would receive in a crash situation.

 

Our Dummy Family

To test the Jané seats and guarantee the maximum safety for your children, we use dummies of all ages. We like to call them ‘our dummy family’. We have a newborn, a 9-month-old baby, an 18-month-old, a 3-year old, a 6-year-old and 12-year-old.

 

Artificially given human characteristics

For the crash test to be as similar as possible to a real crash, the dummies have to follow two basics criteria: biofidelity (for it to have the same size and weight as the children of the age group it represents) and anthropomorphism (meaning that the movements and reactions of the dummy are as similar as possible to those of real child).

 

32 sensors mean we can measure the damage caused by each impact

At first, these dummies had 6 sensors inside to measure the impact of the crash on the internal organs (mainly in the chest and head). But technology moves on and a short time ago the Q series of dummies were created fitted with 32 sensors. These sensors are spread out almost all over the body (head, cervical, chest and pelvis), and they allow us to measure the damage in the event of whiplash, seat belt tension, side impacts and vertical displacement.

 

We go further than European regulations

We never get tired of repeating this, but our self-imposed safety standards mean we always strive to go beyond legal requirements. The Q series of dummies at the JANÉ CRASH TEST RESEARCH CENTER go far beyond the requirements of European safety testing for child car seats. They are much more similar to real children than the previous dummies as a dummy from the Q series has clavicles, ribs, pelvis, and vertebrae. Also, thanks to the technological advances of this new generation of dummies, we can study what improvements should be made to the designs of our seats to guarantee maximum safety.
